Why Your Organization Should Consider  Joining WAGE...

In a word ... "Independence".

WAGE was founded on on the philosophy that well-run, independent public employee associations can provide knowledgeable and effective services to their members without the high cost and political interference of national union affiliation.

"If we, as association professionals and policy persons, can provide competent and professional services to our membership, then there is little need to affiliate with any AFL-CIO union," says WAGE Executive Director Karen Frei.

Toward that end, one of WAGE's primary purposes is to provide the coordinated policy, educational, research and political action services that make affiliation with national AFL-CIO unions unnecessary.

With sufficient education and dedication, WAGE member organizations have found that they are free to decide entirely for themselves what is in their best interest and, consequently, what benefits their members. This is true whether the association operates in a "right to work" state, or is responsible for collective bargaining.

The ability to chart one's own direction free from the dictates of a national labor union office is what distinguishes a WAGE member organization from an AFL-CIO union local...

... and independence and freedom is what WAGE is all about.
